The Yankees kept the offense rolling in Pittsburgh on Saturday, cruising to a 10-4 win over the Pirates in game two of the three-game set. New York once again flexed its power and lineup depth, improving to 6-2 on the young season and clinching a series win in the process.
One of the biggest storylines of the day? A loud two-homer game from a guy taking full advantage of his increased opportunity: Trent Grisham.
Grisham’s Multi-Homer Day Turns Heads
Trent Grisham has been getting more consistent run this season, and on Saturday, he made it count in a big way. Batting from the ninth spot in the order, Grisham launched two home runs, including a solo shot in the third and a three-run bomb in the fifth that helped the Yankees pull away. He finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs, a career day that underscored his early-season impact.

With those two long balls, the Yankees now sit at 25 home runs on the year, which is two more than any other team in MLB history through its first eight games of a season. They’re also outpacing the rest of the league in 2025—by a good margin. The next closest team is the Dodgers, who have 21 homers—but they’ve played two more games than the Yankees.
Grisham’s emergence adds yet another layer of danger to a Yankees lineup that was already deep. And right now, everything seems to be clicking.
Volpe Clears the Bases, Again
Anthony Volpe kept up his strong start to the season as well, coming through with a three-run double in the fifth inning that blew the game wide open. It was his sixth hit in the last three games and continues to show how he’s growing into a clutch presence in the middle of the order. Volpe’s timing at the plate has been a huge boost for this team early on.
Everyone Contributes as Yankees Hit Double Digits Again
Saturday marked the fifth time in eight games that the Yankees have scored at least nine runs—and this time, it was a full-squad effort from top to bottom. Every player in the starting lineup tallied at least one hit. But the biggest impact came from the lower half of the order.
Anthony Volpe, Austin Wells, and Trent Grisham—batting in the 5-6-9 spots—combined to drive in 9 of the team’s 10 runs. Grisham’s two homers accounted for four RBIs, Volpe cleared the bases with a three-run double, and Wells added two RBIs of his own. The trio sparked rallies and delivered in big spots, proving the bottom of the lineup can be just as dangerous as the top.
“It’s been really fun to see how everyone has really chipped into this,” Manager Aaron Boone said after the game. “They’re playing at a really high level right now.”
Whether it’s speed, power, or situational hitting, this Yankees offense continues to show just how dangerous and balanced it is—and they’re doing it day in and day out.
Stroman Battles, Bullpen Slams Door
Marcus Stroman started strong but ran into some trouble in the fourth, when the Pirates tagged him for four runs. Still, the bullpen came in and handled business. Tim Hill, Mark Leiter Jr., Fernando Cruz, and Ryan Yarbrough combined for five shutout innings, locking things down and keeping Pittsburgh from climbing back into it.

Looking Ahead
The Yankees will look to complete the sweep on Sunday with rookie Will Warren taking the mound for his second start of the season. He’ll be matched up against a familiar face in left-hander Andrew Heaney, a former Yankee. After wrapping up the series in Pittsburgh, New York will continue its road trip with a three-game set in Detroit before heading back to the Bronx for a homestand next weekend.
