2 MAJOR WILFIRES CONTINUE TO BURN IN NEW JERSEY

Firefighters continues to fight a blaze in West Milford during early Thursday morning.

The large brush fire started in a wooded area near a rest stop off Route 23 north and Spring Lake Road, according to West Milford Mayor Michele Dale. A section of Route 23 had shut down, but reopened early Thursday. The forest fire has burned about 140 acres so far.

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service says it has begun a backfiring operation to help contain it near Echo Lake.

Meantime the massive wildfire in Manchester that has burned more than 3800 acres in the area of Route 70, Route 539 and Horicon Avenue is about 75 percent contained.

170 structures were evacuated on Tuesday night. No one was injured and no houses or buildings have been damaged.
