After an offseason filled with interesting moves by the New York Giants including the signings of QB Russell Wilson and QB Jameis Winston, the time has come to make their picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. The night that many fans have been eagerly waiting for as the Giants hold the number three overall pick. However, there as been lots of speculation that the Giants are open to trading the pick. Here are three reasons why the Giants should stay at the number three overall spot.
1. Travis Hunter
The 2024 Heisman Trophy Winner is an incredible athlete on both sides of the ball and if he is available at number three it would be shocking to see the Giants pass up on such natural athleticism and talent. In addition to the talent, Hunter would also fill two positions that the Giants desperately need more depth in. The CB and WR position are two that lack personnel and Hunter would most certainly elevate them. Hunter realistically, although it would be difficult, could start on both sides of the ball for New York which in itself would be an amazing feat, but also again help out with depth.
In the 2024 season at Colorado as a WR, Hunter finished the year with 96 receptions, 1258 yards and 15 touchdowns in the air in just 13 games. On the defensive side as a cornerback, Hunter finished the year with 36 tackles (25 solo), four interceptions, and one tackle for a loss.

2. Abdul Carter
The Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year is one that the Giants have had their eyes on and should not take them off. Carter who sits at 6’3 and 251 lbs is a force to be reckoned with at the linebacker position. In the 2024 season, Carter recorded 68 tackles (43 solo), four passes defended and 24 tackles for loss in 16 games. While the Giants already have great talent at the linebacker position in Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux, Carter would be the nail in the coffin to make New York’s defense threatening again. If available at number three the Giants should leap on the opportunity to bolster their defense.

3. OL Needs
While the Giants have made moves in the offseason to bolster their offense, they still have yet to really address one of the biggest concerns their offensive line. While they did re-sign OL Greg Van Roten and OL Aaron Stinnie, and added OT James Hudson III and OL Stone Forsythe, they haven’t added a big starter to the rotation. The need for a new starter is evident and with the signings of QBs Wilson and Winston, the need to protect their veterans before they get pancaked every other snap is more pressing than ever.
Some potential additions through the 3rd overall pick could be OT Will Campbell from LSU, OT Armand Membou from Missouri or OT Kelvin Banks Jr. from Texas. All three of these athletes could greatly improve the existing offensive line and give the Giant QBs more time to work.
