A miniature horse has been spotted in the Woodbridge Wegmans.
The Woodbridge Police verified this sighting, noting that the miniature horse is a service animal. Since the horse is registered as a service animal, it is allowed to enter the Woodbridge Wegmans.
Woodbridge Police Director Robert Hubner mentioned that “It is a miniature horse and by Americans with Disabilities Act regulations, they can be service animals.” He also elaborated how “. . . miniature horses must be individually trained to perform a specific task for a person with a disability.”
The horse’s owner also confirmed that he has registered the miniature horse as a service animal. In an interview with Patch, the man noted that he needs the horse to aid him with his mobility issues. He leans on the horse when in public settings, including many Woodbridge stores such as Wegmans, ShopRite and Lowe’s Hardware Store.
Sharing his opinions with Patch, the man expressed a sense of vulnerability, noting that he “do[esn’t] like the attention [he is] receiving, and [he is] trying to get (a video circulating on social media) down.” He also mentioned that he may have to involve lawyers if people steal his horse, as they have recently claimed.
Many photos and videos of the miniature horse in the Woodbridge stores are available on social media. Individuals also took to social media to alert residents to visit the Wegmans and see the horse for themselves.
