The borough of Highland Park will install bike lanes on N. 8th Avenue and Magnolia and Benner streets. Democratic Representative Frank Pallone announced the good news on Monday, August 5th. He also shared that the streets, parallel to Raritan Ave., or state route 27, will now become one-ways to facilitate this change, making it easy for bike riders to enjoy.
The Highland Park Police Department has long dealt with speeding issues on N. 8th Ave, mentioned Highland Park Mayor Elsie Foster. The bike lanes will be sure to curb this issue and welcome community members to enjoy a bike ride in the nice weather.
Highland Park residents are pleased by the news. Pallone shared that he received $850,000 in federal community project funding to begin this process. Elsie Foster shared that the town “… take[s] pedestrian and bicyclist safety very seriously. . . this federal allocation will go a very long way in making some of our busiest streets safer.” The community, the Safe Walking and Cycling Committee, and the town have been working to address issues and make Highland Park more suitable for cyclists.
