Breakdown of the New York Sirens 2024-25 roster

By Adriana Leone

With the puck dropping on New York’s season in 24 hours, the Sirens have officially dropped their opening night roster. The roster features 13 forwards, seven defenders, three goaltenders, and one reserve player. Here’s a breakdown of this year’s squad’s fresh faces and returning players.

The one positive aspect of the Sirens’ disappointing first season was their draft placement, particularly their landing the first overall pick. The 2024-25 roster features eight new players, all of whom are playing in their first seasons.

Sarah Fillier: Selected 1st overall, attended Princeton University, served as team’s captain from 2022-2024, three-time all-American winner, three-time first team all ECAC member, part of Canada’s gold medal-winning team in 2022 Olympics, as a Tiger registered 93 goals, 6th in Princeton history, 101 assists, 2nd in Princeton history, good for 194 points, 4th in Princeton history.

Gabby Rosenthal: Selected 19th overall, attended Ohio State University, served as an alternate captain from 2021-2023, led team to a national championship in 2022, led team to first WCHA regular season title in 2023, member of Team USA for the 2022 rivalry series, registered 108 points as a Buckeye.

Noora Tulus: Selected 13th overall, played in the SDHL for the past 9 years for Luleå HF, won seven league titles, in the 2023-24 campaign led the SDHL in goals with 21, scored 66 points in 36 games, member of Team Finland playing in two Olympic games and eight IHF Women’s World Championships.

One of New York’s biggest issues last season was gelling together as a single unit. It was an understandable issue in the league’s inaugural year and a head coaching change mid-season. Going into the 2024-25 season, New York returns 14 players from last year’s squad.

New York officially gets the season underway when they face the Minnesota Frost on Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. A promising squad for what the Sirens hope is a turnaround 2024-25 campaign.
