The Brooklyn Nets continue to struggle throughout the new year, with their last win coming against the Portland Trail Blazers. They have lost every game over the past two weeks and look to continue that losing streak. Although winning may be good for team morale, it’s clear the Brooklyn Nets are sacrificing this season to start a fresh rebuild in 2026. The Nets hold 13th place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 14 to 33.
Knicks Take Over New York In Rivalry Week Win Over Brooklyn
The Nets lose to the New York Knicks with a score of 99 to 95 during Rivalry Week in a tight-knit battle for both ball clubs. Both D’Angelo Russell and Cameron Johnson did what they could to be the offensive load for the team and carry the Nets to victory, but they failed to hold onto the lead and missed out on opportune times to take the lead back late in the game.
Russell tried to cut down the lead with a three-pointer, as Johnson tried to hit a three-pointer in the next Nets’ possession to take back the lead. However, the shot was missed, and Jalen Brunson sealed the win for the Knicks with a pair of free throws. Brunson helped propel the Knicks toward a win when he hit three straight shots that not only gave the Knicks the lead but gave them the momentum to prevent the Nets from making a late-game comeback.

Kevin Durant Puts Up 24 Against Former Team

Durant and Booker combined for 56 points in their victory over the Nets, as they were without many of their core players. Cam Johnson, Cam Thomas, D’Angelo Russell, and Ben Simmons were all out for Wednesday’s game.
Some of the Nets did try to make an offensive effort, with Keon Johnson scoring 20 points and Jalen Wilson adding 15. The Nets tried to cut down their deficit from the first quarter after being behind 28 to 16, but an offensive spurt put the Suns back into the lead and never looked back for the remainder of the game.

Vince Carter Jersey Retirement Night Ends With A Loss
The Nets lost on Saturday night when they retired Vince Carter’s jersey in a 106 to 97 defeat to the Miami Heat. Even without Jimmy Butler, the Heat were able to take a win over Brooklyn and even made a multitude of mistakes along the way. The Heat committed 22 turnovers when shooting 46.4% from the three-point line (13 of 28) but managed to shoot better than the Nets that night. The Nets were 37.5% from the field and were 35% from three-point land (14 of 40).
The Nets played competitively throughout the game and even tied up the game midway through the third quarter, but an offensive run by the Heat ended in a 21 to 7 scoring deficit that the Nets could not crawl back from.

Sabonis grabbed his seventh triple-double of the season with 21 points, 22 rebounds, and 11 assists, helping the Kings toward victory. Despite an early lead by Brooklyn that they could only hold onto until halftime, the Kings picked up momentum and outscored the Nets 33 to 24 in the third quarter.
The momentum continued with a 13-to-2 run, and the Kings ran away with the win. The Nets had most of their core back but lost Noah Clowney in the second quarter, who was down due to injury. The loss to the Kings was the Nets’ seventh straight loss and created their biggest streak in the loss column since losing 11 straight during the 2022 season.

What’s Next for the Nets
This Brooklyn Nets are successfully tanking, and it should be noted as a good thing for the franchise. While there is a moral defeat amongst this Nets team, taking consistent losses, especially during games where they had a chance to win, this season is seen as a much-needed sacrifice to hopefully benefit the future of the Brooklyn Nets. Fans can hope all this losing will end in a championship in the coming years should the franchise draft well, plan out their future, and churn out All-Star level talent.
