Brooklyn Nets Take A Rough Loss Before NBA Cup Break

By Jamie Rafael Mocling-Pan

The Brooklyn Nets lost a potential winnable game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday afternoon but can now take a breather until Friday. Last week, the Nets were eliminated from NBA Cup contention, and now sit in the eighth seed with a 10-14 record after the loss to Milwaukee on Sunday.

Tough Loss At Home To Milwaukee

The Brooklyn Nets take a 118 to 113 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks in what could have been a momentum-building win for Brooklyn. The Nets kept the momentum up throughout the game and were in close contention against the more talented Bucks team. The Nets prevented another 25-point game by Damian Lillard, but it wasn’t enough as Giannis Antetokounmpo added 34 points and 11 rebounds on the scoreboard. Bobby Portis helped in the points column for the Bucks with 23 points of his own while off the bench. Lillard was limited to 15 points, but it was enough for the Bucks to get the job done.

The Nets had a ten-point lead late in the third quarter, but the Bucks managed to rally back thanks to Antetokounmpo, Portis, and Gary Trent Jr. to tie the game at 86 as they headed into the fourth quarter. The Nets regained the lead, but a late surge by the Bucks put them back on top and sealed the win against Brooklyn. The Nets starting lineup did the most damage offensively, with Dennis Schroder, Cam Johnson, and Nicolas Claxton with 34, 26, and 21, respectively. Schroder also had 11 assists, while Claxton had ten rebounds for the Nets. Their efforts were not enough, as the bench could not rack up more than 11 points and struggled to put points up on the board.

What’s Next For The Nets

The Nets can look to get some rest for a while as the NBA Cup finishes up. During this time, the Nets can also regroup and regain their composure. The Nets will not be getting Cam Thomas back as soon as the NBA Cup is over, but his recovery looks good, and he will return in a timely manner. In the meantime, the Nets can look forward to trying to win to the best of their abilities without their star guard. The Nets have a great game offensively but fail to execute defensively. The Nets had choked away a potential win and were criticized by head coach Jordi Fernandez for failing to play defense in the final defense. Hopefully, this break will give the Nets the opportunity to reset before they face off against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday.
