The Brooklyn Nets took this season to tank and restructure the entire team. Losing meant higher chances at a top pick, but this week made it harder to potentially acquire such a pick after the Nets took three straight wins. While it is great for the morale of the current squad, it may backfire in the long run if they can’t acquire a top pick in this year’s draft. The Nets are now 20-34 and hold 12th place in the Eastern Conference Standings.
Nets Bring The Heat In A Win Over Miami
The Nets took a solid 102 to 86 win over the Miami Heat thanks to great offensive performances by Cam Johnson and D’Angelo Russell with double-digit scoring against the Heat. The loss of Jimmy Butler during the trade deadline was most definitely felt when the Heat were limited to just nine points in the fourth quarter. The Heat shot at an abysmal 9.5% from the field in the fourth quarter and were outscored 31 to 9 in a smooth path to victory for the Nets.

For the Nets, Cam Johnson had 18 points, Russell had 17 points, Nic Claxton had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, along with four blocks, and Keon Johnson had 11 points. Off the bench, Trenton Watford had 12 points.
For the Heat, Bam Adebayo had 18 points, Tyler Herro had 15 points, Duncan Robinson had 10 points, and Kelel Ware had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Off the bench, Terry Rozier had 20 points.
Brooklyn Takes Another One
The Nets were able to gain a victory over the Charlotte Hornets in a 97 to 89 win. The Hornets only had LaMelo Ball for the first ten minutes of the game when he unfortunately went down because of a right ankle injury he’s been dealing with. The Hornets struggled without their best playmaker, trailing throughout the game and scrambled to try to cut the deficit. The Nets’ offense burst open in the second quarter and the Hornets had no answers as they were unable to take back the lead at any point during the game. The Hornets also had a rough shooting night, when they shot 19.4% from three-point land and were 6 of 31 from the three-point line.

For the Nets, Claxton had 16 points, Cam Johnson had 14 points, and Ziaire Williams and Russell had 11 points each. Off the bench, Day’Ron Sharpe had 14 points and Watford had 13 points.
For the Hornets, Moussa Diabate also went out due to injury but had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, and Nick Smith Jr. had 13 points. Off the bench, TidJane Saladin had 16 points.
Brooklyn Goes For Three
D’Angelo Russell shined bright with his offensive performance that gave the Nets a 100 to 96 win over the Philadelphia 76ers before the All-Star Break. This was the third game in a row where the opposing team had a shooting slump as the 76ers shot 24% from the three-point line and were 43.2% from the field. 76ers forward Paul George had to fend for himself without his other two co-stars in Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey out due to injury. George could not get anything to go in and had an atrocious shooting night with only two points on the scoreboard for him. The Nets on the other hand played a very good game that had Nicolas Claxton end his evening with five blocks.

For the Nets, Russell had 22 points, Cam Johnson had 16 points, and Nic Claxton had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, along with his five blocks. Off the bench, Trenton Watford had 18 points.
For the 76ers, Kelly Oubre Jr had 30 points, and Quentin Grimes had 30 points. Off the bench, Justin Edwards had 13 points and three steals.
What’s Next For The Nets?
The Nets can finally take some well-deserved rest who will be in good spirits heading into the All-Star Break after winning six of their last seven games. D’Angelo Russell seems to be fitting back in with Brooklyn very well and has become their main offensive threat until Cam Thomas can make his return from injury. Ben Simmons was recently waived by the Brooklyn Nets this past week which came to no surprise. While it was thought that the Nets would ride out Simmons’ contract until the end, it made sense for both parties to part ways with one another.
Simmons was unfortunately ineffective and invaluable to a Nets team that is currently looking to rebuild and reshape its roster. Moving on from Ben Simmons was an easy transition for Nets’ fans and the Nets organization as Simmons looks to take his talents down to Los Angeles where he will be playing for the Los Angeles Clippers.
