Bruce Springsteen and Jeremy Allen White have been spotted in Asbury Park on the set of Deliver Me From Nowhere, a Springsteen biopic in which White plays a younger version of the singer.
The movie began filming in October around the Garden State, and Springsteen has been spotted on set multiple times, showing his support for the film. Springsteen was seen in Bayonne, Rahway, Rockaway, Asbury Park and other New Jersey towns, interacting with fans, signing scripts for the cast and crew, and embracing White.
On Thursday, December 5th, Springsteen observed the movie’s new scenes.
Deliver Me From Nowhere focuses on Springsteen’s early career, specifically his journey in crafting his 1982 album “Nebraska.”
Asbury Park has been integrated into the movie; White has filmed inside of The Stone Pony, and later, the cast and crew will film in Springsteen’s hometown of Freehold as well as the Carousel House.
The film, directed by Scott Cooper, is based off of Montclair resident Warren Zane’s book Deliver Me From Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska.
Deliver Me From Nowhere features a star-studded cast. Succession’s Jeremy Strong plays Jon Landau, Springsteen’s manager. Springsteen’s guitarist and music director for the E-Street Band, Steven Van Zandt, will also have a role in the film in which Jersey Boys’ Johnny Cannizzaro will take on this part.
Odessa Young from The Staircase will play Springsteen’s love interest, and Paul Walter Houser will play Mike Batlan, a guitar technician that organized equipment in a bedroom of the home that Bruce Springsteen used as he crafted Nebraska.
Sprinsteen’s mother, Adele Springsteen, will also be in the film and played by Gaby Hoffman, and Stephen Graham will play Springsteen’s father Douglas “Dutch” Springsteen.
New Jersey natives will also play a role in the film. David Krumholtz of Wyckoff will star as Al Teller, a record executive, and Marc Maron of Jersey City will play producer Chuck Plotkin who was instrumental to Nebraska’s creation.
