A complete team effort saw the Centenary Cyclones outlast Saint Elizabeth in a nail-biting 81-78 score on Thursday night dropping Saint Elizabeth to a (3-9) record and boosting Centenary to an even (6-6) record. It was a very good match-up from these two teams who gave it their all from the very first minute. It was very unsure who would come out on top when the final buzzer beeped with the score being so close and a game that was back and forth.
From the opening tip to the end of the first half of the game, it was clear to every fan in attendance on the night that they were in for a great game. The game started off hot with three, three-pointers all back-to-back and was all out from there. Saint Elizabeth had the lead at the end of the first quarter with a one-point lead and a score of 44-43. Despite the lead Saint Elizabeth had on the Cyclones, they never chose to back down and were determined to turn the score around in the second half.
Centenary’s trio of Kenneth Rankin, Justin Carbone and Devin Strickland all combined for a total of 46 points to secure the win and bench who helped contribute in the win with a total of 34 points. Both teams on the night’s leads were changed 19 times and shared the same amount of times they tied up the game with a total of 11 times for both.
On the night, Tye-Rell Monroe’s outstanding 35 points and 8 rebound performance wasn’t quite enough to bring the win home on the night for the eagles. Tye-Rell went 13-28 on the court and went 100 percent accurate from the free throw line going 5-5.
Malamin Kaba, Cam’Ron Martel and Jonathan Ramos all also helped combine a total of 41 points but were all cut short on Thursday night. Saint Elizabeth will return back after the holiday break up against Gallaudet University who currently sit (0-8) on their season.
The Centenary Cyclones will be back with more basketball right before the new year up against Rutgers-Newark who are (4-7) on their current season.
