Number 2 seed Christian Brothers Academy beat number 3 seed Don Bosco in an overwhelming win where CBA imposed their will from the get-go. CBA was 2-1 before tonight’s matchup in the regular season against Don Bosco.
While the first period was scoreless CBA had more chances with shots being 11-10 to end the first period. Both goaltenders were solid taking on multiple chances and odd man rushes. CBA took their first penalty of the game but were able to kill it off.
The onslaught came in the second period with junior Anthony Brereton kicking off the scoring just 51 seconds in. CBA proceeded to score 3 more goals in the next 5 minutes with senior Kenny Logan, junior William Linardakis, and junior Nick Desiderio notching in the next three, putting CBA in a comfortable lead for the rest of the period with Don Bosco not being able to enter the zone easily.
The third period carried over with much of the same with Don Bosco not having a lot of success in the offensive zone sitting at a stalemate for the majority of time remaining. CBA took their fourth penalty of the game which they paid for with goaltender Rocco Morenzi losing his shutout with only 1:38 left in the game. The goal was scored by Rian Lahar. Don Bosco also had a penalty earlier in the game but CBA was able to kill it off without issue.
Morenzi, along with the defense of CBA, shined bright this game only allowing that aforementioned power play goal. Other than that they were shut down and allowed very little pressure from Don Bosco often times stopping them in the neutral zone before there was any threat. Morenzi stopped 28 out of 29 shots helping CBA into the non-public state finals on Monday March 10 at the Prudential Center at 3:15 against the winner of the semifinal matchup between Delbarton and St. Joseph’s.
