Devils Dominate Oilers in 3-0 Shutout

The New Jersey Devils traveled to Edmonton to take on the Oilers Monday night.

While this was their last game before returning home from a little road trip, it was extremely impressive. The Devils came out hot and ready to go, scoring just seconds into the first period.

The New Jersey Devils, Stefan Noesen(6) gets the Devils on the board, scoring 1-0—a slap shot goal with assists by Paul Cotter(3) and Jesper Bratt (12). The Devils won five face-offs in the first period.

As the first period commenced, the Devils had no penalty time. Most of their plays were consistent and defense-focused, which was a significant improvement and accomplishment for the New Jersey Devils.

As the second period began, The New Jersey Devils only took three shots on goal, of which one of the three went in. Stefan Noesen scored the goal—his second of the night for the Devils. Stefan Noesen was then on the watch for a hat trick. His second goal of the night was assisted by Nico Hischier(6) and Dougie Hamilton(7). Dougie Hamilton received a minor penalty for embellishment at 8:01 in the second period. The Devils won 8 face-offs in the second period.

In the third period, Nico Hischier won the first faceoff against Leon Draisaitl (Oilers) at puck drop. Eleven seconds in, he won again. A penalty is called on the Devils, Timo Meier, at 1:05 for tripping Leon Draisaitl.

Coming out of a penalty, Timo Meier(6) scored a backhand shot, which brought the Devils to 3-0. His goal was assisted by Dawson Mercer(5). As the third period continued, the Devils controlled the puck drop continuously. The Devils’ defense showed up tonight. They were quick and conditioned well with the Devils’ goalie, Jake Allen. Allen blocked 31 shots on goal made by the Oilers. With highly successful saves, Allen helped lead the Devils to victory.

Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier, including Erik Haula, contributed the majority of faceoff wins. Jack Hughes had an impressive night. The number of faceoffs he won was extraordinary. Hughes only continues to build up his excellence from here on. The Devils won 24 faceoffs, had 16 shots on goal, and had a 51.1 faceoff percentage. The Devils were the more physical team tonight, having 18 hits, while the Oilers only had five.

The Devils ended their road trip with an impressive performance. This win was needed to boost the team’s self-esteem after losing to the Calgary Flames 3-0 last Friday.

The New Jersey Devils will play the Montreal Canadiens at home on Thursday, November 7th, at 7 p.m.
