The New Jersey Devils just announced they have officially signed University of Michigan Alumnus Ethan Edwards to a two-year, entry-level contract.

Edwards was drafted 120th in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Draft and has additionally signed an AHL Standard Player Contract to begin training with the Utica Comets for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. After gaining experience with the Comets, Edwards will be joining the Devils in preparation for the 2025-2026 season. He will also soon be reunited with friends and fellow Michigan Alumni, Luke Hughes and Seamus Casey, to become teammates once again.

The 6-foot defenseman was born in 2002, in Alberta, Canada, and will turn 23 on June 6. Edward also shoots left-handed. Prior to his time with Michigan, Edwards played for the Spruce Grove Saints (AJHL), Canada West, the Sioux City Musketeers (USHL), and a few others during his high school career.

Approximately two weeks before his signing, Edwards completed his senior season as a defenseman for the University of Michigan Wolverines. This season he played in every single game (36) and was credited as the highest-scoring defenseman with 21 points.

In his four years playing for the Wolverines, Edwards has been selected for the B1G All-Academic Team twice, been an Alternate Captain, and earned 56 points. He also contributed to the team’s success in both 2022 and 2023, where he played for two Big Ten Tournament Championship teams and three Frozen Fours.

According to announcements just recently made public, many suspect Edwards will be retiring his blue and maize #73 in exchange for a red and black #41. Many fans are extremely excited for this signing and are eager to see another Michigan alumnus take the ice representing the New Jersey Devils. Safe to say that Edwards will be a great addition to the team. Keep an eye out for more updates on Ethan’s progress with Utica, and maybe he will be spotted as they next play away against the Syracuse Crunch on March 28. Go Blue!
