The New Jersey Devils faced the Detroit Red Wings this past Friday afternoon, bringing home a 5-4 win back to New Jersey. The Devils just lost their last game against the St. Louis Blues being shut out by a score of 3-0. Coming off from a rough game just before the Holidays, the Devils were looking to make a comeback this afternoon against the Red Wings.
As the first period commenced, it was a rough beginning for the Devils. Just a minute and 59 seconds into the first period Devils defenseman, Brenden Dillon receives a two-minute minor penalty for cross-checking against Michael Rasmussen. Minutes later, Red Wings, right winger, Vladimir Tarasenko scores a power play goal on the Devils net. His goal was assisted by Jeff Petry and J.T. Compher. At 6:21 in the first, Devils, Johnathan Kovacevic and Red Wings, Michael Rasmussen receive a five-minute major penalty for fighting. Another goal was put in by the Red Wings by right winger, Lucas Raymond. His goal was assisted by teammates, Vladimir Tarasenko and Jeff Petry.
New Jersey Devils defenseman, Dougie Hamilton scores his fourth goal of the season on the power play at 16:05, putting the Devils on the board. His goal was assisted by Captain, Nico Hischier and Alternate Captain, Jack Hughes. That was Jack Hughes 18th assist of the season, he is on the route to 20 assists. Roughly two minutes later, Timo Meier ties the game. Putting the game at 2-2 with another power play goal. An outstanding goal by Timo Meier with assists by Luke Hughes (his fifth assist of the season) and Tomas Tatar.

As the second period commenced, at 1:26, Red Wings Left Winger, Tyler Motte, scored bringing the game to 3-2. With assists from Ben Chiarot and J.T. Compher. At 11:10 in the second, Devils Captain, Nico Hischier ties the game, 3-3. This was Hischier’s 14th goal of the season — assisted by Timo Meier and and Johnathan Kovacevic. Five minutes later, Stefan Noesen scores his 11th goal of the season, giving the New Jersey Devils an advantage of 4-3. His goal was unassisted. Towards the end of the second, Ben Chiarot from the Red Wings received a double-minor penalty for high-sticking against Nico Hischier.

As the third period commenced, the New Jersey Devils come out hot and fiery after leading the game at the end of the second. Just three minutes into the third, Alternate Captain, Jack Hughes brings the game to 5-3 with a wrist shot goal on the Red Wings net. His goal was also a power play goal for the Devils. Hughes’ goal was assisted by Dougie Hamilton and Jesper Bratt.

Roughly 22 seconds later, the Red Wings’ Justin Holl brings the game to 5-4. Holl’s goal was assisted by Andrew Copp. The Devils were still in the lead after his goal. The New Jersey Devils held this score until the end of the third. The New Jersey Devils came off quite unconditioned this afternoon, but were able to pick up the slack and bring home a win after being shut out but the St. Louis Blues last Wednesday at home.
This afternoon, the New Jersey Devils made 29 shots on goal, while the Detroit Red Wings had 28 shots on goal. Extremely well for such a close game. The Red Wings had an ecstatic face-off percentage of 53.2% today while the Devils struggled a lot more during face-offs. Their percentage was 46.8%. Although, the Devils had a fantastic Power play percentage today of 75%, the Red Wings only had 25%. The Devils did extremely well on Power Play today. Both teams had 13 minutes worth of penalty time today. The Devils did disappoint in the amount of giveaways tonight, they gave the puck away 26 times. Although, they still proved their performance tonight taking home the win. The New Jersey Devils will return home and will face the Washington Capitals on Saturday, Nov. 30, for a division matchup at 7p.m.
