The New Jersey Devils took on the Calgary Flames at their home area, the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
The New Jersey team had a busy game. However, they could not hold their own against Calgary and lost tonight’s matchup. Things started going well for them, and by the third quarter, things took a turn. They suffered another loss in this week’s Thursday night game.
The final score was 5-3, with the Flames coming out on top.
In the first quarter, things were rough for both sides. Within the first five minutes at 5:05 of the game, the Devils forward, Timo Meier, was penalized for boarding the Flames defensive Joel Hanley.
Following that, several moments later, at 8:03, the Flame’s left wing, Joel Farabee, had a penalty called on him for slashing at Meier.
At 12:36, another penalty was called on the Devil’s left-wing Thomas Tatar for causing interference with Calgary’s center Martin Pospisil.
The Devils scored their first goal at 17:09. Center Nico Hischier assisted forward Stefan Noesen and defenseman Johnathan Kovacevic. The Devils finished the first quarter with the game’s lead.
The second quarter had more to it than the first. At 5:25, the Devils scored again. This goal was made by forward Erik Haula, who assisted defenseman Brian Dumoulin. At this point in the game, the score was 0-2. The Devils were still leading.
Following the score, at 11:39, Devils defenseman Brett Pesce was penalized for delaying the game because the puck had gone over the glass.
At 11:58, Calgary entered the game and finally scored their first goal. Right-wing Matt Coronato scored on a powerplay assisted by Huberdeau and M. Frost. The game now stood at 1-2.
At 13:21, Meier was charged with another penalty for the puck going over the glass again.
Following this, Calgary received another penalty at 16:21, this time from right-wing Adam Klapka for interference against Kovacevic.
After the penalty was called, both teams began to get going again. At 19:32, Devils center Paul Cotter scored once again. Heiser assisted him and forward Brendan Dillon. At the end of the second quarter, the score officially stood at 1-3. The Devils were still leading.
It wasn’t until the third quarter that the Devils’ performance faltered. They scored nothing, but Calgary came back and beat them out with four shots.
One was made by center Connor Zary at 6:50, putting the game at 2-3. Pospisil and Hanley assisted him.
The Devils’ only incident was at 7:17 when the Devils forward Jesper Bratt was penalized for tripping Huberdeau.
Another one followed several moments later at 15:40, and it was made by defense Daniil Miromanov, tying this game up to 3-3. Left-wing Blake Coleman and Farabee assisted him in achieving this goal.
It wasn’t even another moment later when Calgary scored again. It was made by unassisted Huberdeau, who scored this goal by himself. The score then stood at 4-3.
In the game’s last moments, the Devils had an empty goal, and center Nazem Kadri took the puck and scored the game’s final goal. He put them on top to take home this game’s win from the Prudential Center.
The Devils will return on Saturday at 7 P.M. to take on the Ottawa Senators at home in Newark at the Prudential Center.
