A dog died in a house fire in Secaucus on Friday, November 8.
The house fire on 10th Street started at 10 am on Friday morning, as reported by Garry Jeffas, a town administrator in Secaucus. The fire came from a two-family home, located between Front and Centre streets.
Town officials speculate that the fire began in the kitchen, although the current occupants of the home were not present when the fire started. The individuals that reside on the other section of the home noticed the fire and called 911 immediately.
While the family was not home, their dog died as a result of ingesting the fumes and smoke. The dog’s breed or age is unknown at this time.
Town administrator Jeffas does not know how the fire began or what caused it. The Secaucus Fire Department worked with the nearby Lyndhurst Fire Department for extra help, along with police officers and EMS members to quell the flames.
The fire rendered the home unlivable.
