Three dozen cats and dogs were rescued by the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter (SRAS).
The animals were transported from Florida to create space for animals affected by Hurricane Milton. 12 dogs were brought to the animal shelter for safety. Two dozen cats arrived at the Bridegwater shelter from nearby Newark.
The dogs are all ages—from three months to seven years old—as reported by SRAS Manager Brian Bradshaw.
While the shelter is pleased to take in the animals, the cost to care for pre-existing medical issues, as well as spay and neutering them, will be quite hefty, creating a rise in expenses for the nonprofit.
As a nonprofit, SRAS services the needs of animals in Somerset County. With an influx of animals, the shelter is looking for donations and/or any residents interested in fostering or adopting a pet. Members can also help the shelter by donating supplies from their Amazon Wishlist or donating at the link here.
