Investigators say 38-year-old Richard Golden urged people in a 4Chan chat room to put a bullet in the head of Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood. Golden allegedly made the threat after Sheriff Chitwood denounced a white supremacist group for distributing antisemitic literature. This week, Golden appeared in a Florida courtroom, but not before being greeted at the airport by the man he allegedly threatened. Sheriff Chitwood says, “I’m Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood. Anything you, uh – I hope you enjoy you stay. Welcome to Florida”.
Golden then made his way outside the Sanford Orlando International Airport where he was placed inside a law enforcement vehicle. “He walked right by. I mean how much [more] gutless can you be,” said Chitwood. Police describe Golden as anti-police, antigovernment, unemployed, and living in a back bedroom at his mother’s New Jersey home.”[Extremists] want to threaten to put bullets and people’s heads and don’t think they’re going to be held accountable,” he said. “We’re going to hold you accountable.” Bodycam video from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office shows when Richard Golden was arrested in Monmouth Junction earlier this month.
Golden is charged with written threats to kill or do bodily injury, according to online booking records. His bail is set at $100,000.
