Francisco Lindor – Back-to-back Silver Slugger

No Surprise Here – Mets SS Francisco Lindor is a Silver Slugger

New York Mets — MVP-Finalist Francisco Lindor has been named the 2024 National League Silver Slugger at shortstop for the second straight year with the Mets, and for the fourth time in his career.

Lindor turned around not only his season – but the whole New York Mets’ season – in late May. At that time, he slashed a sub .200 AVG / sub .400 OBP / sub .300 OPS when the Mets were 22-33. He called the now legendary “players meeting” after being swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers (ironic) in the pre-Grimace Era, and the Mets emerged from their slump to make an emotional run only two wins shy of a World Series appearance.

Mr. Clutch

The legendary Queens hero, fanbase-proclaimed Captain, and MVP-finalist shortstop finished out the 2024 regular season with the NLCS-reaching OMG Mets having put up a .273 AVG / .344 OBPS / .844 OPS and hit 33 home runs. Since the Mets’ season-turning point, Lindor made a case to change his nickname from Mr. Smile to Mr. Clutch.

Defining Moments

“That shot was a defining moment – And when a defining moment comes along, you define the moment… Or the moment defines you.” – Roy McAvoy, Tin Cup (1996)

Francisco Lindor is the king of defining moments. His stone-cold, game-winning home run to clinch a Wild Card berth for the Mets against the Atlanta Braves is the slow-motion movie moment you dreamt of while watching The Sandlot. Not only that, but the slugging shortstop extended the Mets postseason run with a NLDS Game Four go-ahead/game-winning Grand Slam in a 3-1 series victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. He then kicked off the NLCS fight after the Mets dropped Game One to the Dodgers, having opened up Game Two with a leadoff home run and snapping the Dodgers’ then postseason 33-inning scoreless streak. Lindor’s bat, glove, and leadership make him a generational talent.

(This was all with a bad back, mind you.)

It’s no surprise the superstar shortstop is a Silver Slugger once again. An MVP-caliber player with unreal game at the plate (and in the field, Shohei).
