Free citizenship classes in New Jersey are currently being offered for immigrants with a Green Card.
A nonprofit advocacy group, Make the Road New Jersey, will organize several citizenship classes this month and in November to help immigrants learn and prepare for the U.S. Citizenship exam.
The test features 100 questions about U.S. history, civics and government, so the classes will function to provide essential facts about the United States to those who have Green Cards.
The program consists of 10 weeks of classes, which can be either in-person or conducted virtually. Only those who have a Green Card and want to go through with the nation’s naturalization process can register for classes.
Make the Road New Jersey seeks to help immigrants by making the classes free of charge while also providing help as individuals complete their citizenship applications.
Elizabeth and Passaic are currently hosting classes.
The Elizabeth class began earlier this month and currently meets twice a week, with an in-person session on Mondays at the community center and an online class on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The Passaic classes began last week, meeting twice a week. On Tuesdays, classes are in-person at 184 Passaic Street in Passaic, and on Thursday, meetings are online from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Individuals with a Green Card can register here.
