Free Food Giveaway in Newark

By Maddy Grieco

The City of Newark is hosting an event to provide free food to those in need on October 23.

Local citizens can participate in this “drive up and go” event, where they can drive with their vehicles (or walk to the site) and retrieve essential groceries to bring back with them.

Newark has sponsored many similar events to provide their residents with essential goods. The upcoming event, which will occur on Broome Street and Court Street, will feature 1,000 boxes of food for individuals to take. Each package includes fruit, vegetables and chicken.

To access the event, cars should drive on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Court Street. Those walking can enter at Broome Street and Court Street.

The event begins at 10 AM. Streets will be closed to make room for the event. From 8 Am to 1 PM, the following streets will be closed: Court Street between Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. and Prince Street, Broome Street between Court Street and Mercer Street, Howard Street between Court Street and Dandridge Street, Lincoln Street between Mercer Street and Doby Place and Mercer Court between Mercer Street and Court Street.

Those driving should look to take different routes to their destinations.
