Gotham FC are looking to bounce back after their 4-1 loss in Portland last weekend. They will look to get back on track against Washington in DC Saturday.
The Bats spent the last month away from home, playing the last two of their games on the West Coast. In their time out West Gotham went 1-1, losing the last game to Portland who sits just behind them in the standings in fifth.
After such a big loss, the Bats will try to better Washington, who knocked them out of the NWSL Playoffs last season. That match was one that may have started a rivalry between the two teams, as the match did have some heat. Bruninha was sent off with a red card in the 101st minute. The game was tied 1-1 and Gotham would end up losing in penalties. The memories of that match will have Gotham seeking out some revenge.
In their last two wins against North Carolina Courage and Angel City, Esther has provided Gotham with some hope in scoring. She scored a double against the Courage and notched one goal against Angel City as well as the lone goal in the loss to Portland. Having Esther back to her scoring ways shows well for the team as she consistently provides a spark to the offense.
Washington Spirit are looking to challenge Kansas City Current for first. They currently sit tied for second with Orlando Pride with 12 points. They have one loss on the season. The Spirit are known for playing high pressure, quick passing soccer. Gotham has to be weary of the one two touch play and the quickness of the Spirit. A compact backline will have to maintain its shape as Spirit tries to break them down.
Gotham take on the Spirit tomorrow at 1 p.m. on CBS.
