As the holiday season approaches, students in Newark are showcasing their talent by making gifts for local residents.
The Youth Entrepreneurial Spirit (YES) Holiday Showcase at GrassRoots will be open to the public on Thursday, December 19th from 5 pm to 6:30 pm on 10 Bleeker Street. Interested individuals in need of a gift should make sure to stop by and see the gifts crafted by the youth.
The YES Program at GrassRoots, a nonprofit organization, seeks to develop high school students’ arts and entrepreneurship skills, according to their press release. GrassRoots’ press release also mentions that “artmaking – glassblowing, fusing, and flameworking – is the catalyst to teach students the fundamentals of business development . . . [and] each student conceived of their own final project, applying the skills they learned to their unique vision of various glass objects.”
This year, students in Newark made a large array of gifts, including specially crafted glass-themed gifts, using the new artistic and business skills they learned this year. At the event, locals can select one of the students’ creations and enjoy refreshments.
