The NHL recently announced Devils’ goaltender, Jacob Markstrom, as one of three players selected in the NHL to be a star of the month in December.
Markstrom had a tremendous month in net for the Devils, going 8-1-1 with a save percentage of .937, 1.30 goals-against average and two shutouts. His two shutouts came consecutively on Dec. 21 against the Pittsburgh Penguins and on Dec. 23 against Devils’ rivals, the New York Rangers. Markstrom shutout opponents for 139:35 of ice time between games.
He helped the Devils have a very successful month of hockey; the team went 8-4-1 in December. Their current record is 24-13-3 and are fourth in the league.
Markstrom is second in the league in goals against average (2.15), 13th in the league in save percentage (.912), second in the league in wins (19) and tied for second in shutouts (3).
The 34-year-old has been off to a nice start with the New Jersey Devils, giving them opportunities to win every night. The Devils are looking to make a deep playoff run with Markstrom in net for them.
The other two stars of the month are Nathan MacKinnon from the Colorado Avalanche and Leon Draisaitl from the Edmonton Oilers. Markstrom is the second goaltender in the league to be named a ‘Star of the Month’ in the 2024-25 season.
