Kean beat New Jersey City University (NJCU) 5-2 at Jim Hynes Stadium in Union, New Jersey
Kean came into this series with NJCU sweeping Rowan in both their games leading up to tonight. The last week has been the complete polar opposite for NJCU that has not won a game since March 22 where they defeated Muhlenberg College 9-4.
Much of the action happened in the first three innings where Kean had a solid start grabbing four of their five runs of the day in those first three innings. Keans pitcher Rob Salvatore pitched six innings and had a fantastic ERA of 1.80 which helped Kean keep NJCU off the scoreboard and off the plate.
On the other hand Phil Kramer and the rest of the NJCU pitching continued to suffer and was kept on the plate for seven innings as he had a 6.40 ERA for today.
Kean Junior Tyler Stone led off the first inning by hitting an RBI double that allowed Senior Kyle Adorno to score just in the first inning.
Then in the following two innings both teams scored with the majority coming from Kean. The Cougars scored three times and the runs came from sophomore shortstop Dominic Masino, sophomore second baseman Nick Sellari and a homerun deep into left field from senior catcher Trevor Coltenback. NJCU saw senior outfielder John Abrahamsen score off of freshman infielder Chris Rosario’s single.
Both teams would go scoreless until the seventh inning when NJCU tried to start a comeback with sophomore catcher Enrique Beltra hitting a RBI single that allowed sophomore Jeremy Ricourt to score. But Kean fired back that inning with Stone scoring the second time today allowing Kean to ride out the eighth and ninth inning and win the ball game 5-2.
Both teams will play this Friday, April 4 this time with home field advantage for NJCU as they look to break this long and harsh losing streak and Kean will look to extend this win streak to four games as they look to capture another series.
