Leafs Dominate Early, Devils Fall Short in Home Opener

The New Jersey Devils faced the Toronto Maple Leafs at the welcoming of their home opener this Thursday October 10th, 2024. With an unfortunate loss of 4-2, multiple shots were fired at the goal by both teams.

The Leafs came out fierce and strong. Ready to play after they were shut out by the Canadiens. The Leafs scored three goals just within the first period. Players include – Max Pacioretty, Bobby McMann, and Steven Lorentz. Late in the first period, Jesper Bratt got the Devils on the board with a power-play goal. The perfect way to open up the night with an unassisted goal, bringing back some hope into the game after such a rough start.

In the second period, Toronto’s John Tavares extended their lead making it 4-1. Constant attacks were made by the Leafs. Moments later, Timo Meier scored the second goal for New Jersey just before the period ended. With assists from Johnathan Kovacevic and Brenden Dillon.

As the third period commenced, both teams went goal-less. Resulting in the Devils loss of 4-2.

This was an intense game that forced the Devils to pick up the pace and strategize.

Devils goaltender Jacob Markstrom made 18 saves tonight while Toronto’s Dennis Hildeby won his first NHL game and saved 23 shots that were put on goal by the New Jersey Devils.

Despite the loss, fans were fired up with energy and excitement to welcome their favorite team home.

The Devils will next take on the Washington Capitals, this upcoming Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
