New Jersey Devils defensemen Luke Hughes will start the beginning of his sophomore season sidelined due to a shoulder injury he suffered early this month. The injury occurred in his left shoulder during off season training, no surgery will be required.
The Devils will be without Hughes for 6-8 weeks, which puts his return around the end of October. If he returns at the earliest time possible, he would only miss about eight games for the Devils. If it takes the full eight weeks, he could miss up to 14 games.
He returned to New Jersey to receive medical treatment and physical therapy under the care of the Devils medical staff.
After having a successful rookie season, recording nine goals and 38 assists for a total of 47 points, this is a blow to the Devils blueline. Hughes played all 82 games for the Devils last season. As one of the most promising young super stars, his return to the Devils lineup will be highly anticipated.
We wait for word on Simon Nemec who was injured during the Olympic Ice Hockey Qualifications. With Nemec potentially being sidelined due to injury for the beginning of the season, the Devils depth at defense is going to have to show early on in the season.
Similar to last season, injuries plagued the Devils roster. Will the Devils be able to stay healthy this season to make a run for the playoffs?
