As the fall season continues and the winter season comes around the corner, Sandy Hook has planned nature walks for NJ residents.
In conjunction with the American Littoral Society, Sandy Hook will offer three different guided walks for those interested in a mindful and seasonal stroll.
On Saturday, November 2, from 1 PM to 3 PM, New Jerseyans can enjoy the Fall Plant Walk in Sandy Hook. There, you can take a leisurely stroll on the Sandy Hook beach, taking in the joyous fall scenery. On the walk, you can learn about fall food sources that keep animals nourished and find out how animals are preparing for the cold winter ahead. Those interested can register here.
On Saturday, November 23, from 10 AM to 1 PM, you can head up to Broad Channel, New York at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for a seasonal hike. During this hike, you will be able to walk past East and West Ponds, seeking out the migrating and wintering waterfowl. The Littoral Society’s Jamaica Bay Guardian Don Riepe will lead the hike. Lastly, on New Year’s Day, from 11 AM to 1 PM, you can walk to the tip of Sandy Hook and enjoy the winter weather, ringing in 2025 with community fun. You will be able to hike to the end of Breezy Point, meeting the group hiking with Northeast Chapter. You can register here.
