After a rough month of January for the Brooklyn Nets that resulted in a seven-game losing streak, the Nets started off strong in February with three straight wins. The Nets bounced back into February, defeated the Charlotte Hornets, and beat the Houston Rockets back to back. A loss to the Wizards this past week put the Nets at a record of 17-24 and hold 12th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Nets Break Losing Streak in Win Over Charlotte Hornets
Despite playing without the offensive tag team of Cam Thomas and Cam Johnson, the Nets grabbed a 104 to 83 win over the Charlotte Hornets last Wednesday. However, the Hornets were also without most of their starting roster, losing four starters due to injury. This led to a bad offensive game for Charlotte, shooting 34% from the field and 29% from 3-point range. The Hornets had no offensive counters to the Nets led by Keon Johnson.
Johnson had 18 points for the evening, leading the charge in Wednesday’s win. The Nets took charge early and never looked back, out-scoring the Hornets 53 to 37 by halftime. The Nets continued their onslaught against the Hornets for the rest of the game to finally break their longest losing streak since 2022.

For the rest of the Nets, Jalen Wilson had 15 points, Ziaire Williams had 13 points, and Nic Claxton had 12 points. Tosan Evbuomwan had 14 points off the bench, and Ben Simmons had 10 points, who had come off a lingering back injury.
For the Hornets, Miles Bridges had a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds, and Vasilije Micic had 15 points. Off the bench, Moussa Diabate had 13 points.
Nets Win Two In A Row
The Nets defeated the Houston Rockets 110 to 98, making it the first time they have won at least two games in a row since November. The Nets had yet again garnered a sizeable first-half lead, up 53 to 38 in the first two quarters of the game, and did not look back on their way to the win. The Nets’ offense was hot at the Toyota Center, where every starter put up double-digit points on the board. Ziaire Williams and D’Angelo Russell carried the offensive load throughout the game and were the offensive duo of the night, with Cam Thomas and Cam Johnson still out due to injury.
Despite being without their star players, it did not deter the Nets, who took care of things on the road and beat the Rockets through their balanced and suffocating offense to gain their second straight win. A 29-point performance by Jalen Green was not enough and could not carry the Rockets past the Nets, resulting in the loss.
For the Nets, Williams had 21 points, Russell had 18 points, Claxton had 17 points, and Keon Johnson had 13 points. Off the bench, Day’Ron Sharpe had 13 points.
For the rest of the Rockets, Dillon Brooks had 16 points, Steven Adams had 11 points, and Amen Thompson had 8 points and 10 rebounds. Off the bench, Tari Eason had 12 points and 9 rebounds.
Nets Go For Three
The Brooklyn Nets grabbed their third straight win this week through clutch performances by Keon Johnson and D’Angelo Russell for a 99 to 97 win over the Houston Rockets. The Nets and Rockets played neck-and-neck for the first two quarters of the game, with the Rockets only up by a point heading into halftime. After being down by nearly ten points in the third quarter, a burst of offense led by Tyrese Martin and Nic Claxton gave a 14 to 0 run for the Nets to get the lead back. In the game’s final seconds, both Keon Johnson and Russell hit clutch three-pointers to gain the lead and extend their winning streak to three games.

For the Nets, Johnson had 22 points, Claxton had 14 points, and Russell had 10 points. Off the bench, Evbuomwan had 14 points and Martin had 10.
For the Rockets, Alperen Sengun had a double-double with 24 points and 20 rebounds, Brooks had 16 points, and Green had 13 points. Off the bench, Reed Sheppard had 16 points and Cam Whitmore had 12 points.
Washington Breaks The Streak
On Wednesday, the Nets lost to a struggling Washington Wizards team in a 119 to 102 defeat. Despite dealing with trades and being without Kyle Kuzma and Patrick Baldwin Jr., the Wizards still took care of business and shut down the Nets. The Wizards had led 33 to 26 in the first quarter, and despite an attempted comeback, the Wizards took advantage of their early game lead to take a double-digit victory over Brooklyn. The Wizards outscored Brooklyn by shooting 54.3% compared to 43.4% by the Nets, and guys like D’Angelo Russell underperformed when he scored only 5 points in 16 minutes played.

Keon Johnson had 25 points for the Nets, and Cam Johnson had 17 points. Evbuomwan had 15 points off the bench, and Day’Ron Sharpe had 11 points.
For the Wizards, Jordan Poole led with 19 points, Kyshawn George had 17 points, Bub Carrington had a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists, and Bilal Coulibaly had a triple-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists off the bench. Corey Kispert had 17 points, Tristan Vukcevic had 12 points, and Justin Champagnie had 11.
What’s Next For The Nets?
The Nets are not trading away one of their main assets in Cam Johnson despite rumors of Johnson being on the trading block. The Nets are mainly out of the trade deadline debacle many other teams are on the cusp of. The Nets are also not in any talks of a Ben Simmons buyout, and the move isn’t necessary due to the plethora of picks under Brooklyn for the next couple of years. However, winning games may ironically be bad for Brooklyn, and they may lose their chance of garnering a top-five pick and perhaps a future superstar.
