The Nets broke their long losing streak of six straight games and finally grabbed two straight victories to get some wins on the board. The Nets’ season continues to tank, and looks towards the future rather than the present. The Nets are now 12th in the Eastern Conference standings and hold a 25-52 record.
Dallas Extends The Losing Streak For Brooklyn
A wounded Dallas Mavericks team fought hard and were able to beat the Nets 120 to 101 with the return of Anthony Davis. The Nets were outmatched the entire game, unable to stop the Mavericks on either side of the ball. The Nets lacked offensive threats in D’Angelo Russell and Cam Thomas, who were out due to injury. Nadji Marshall, PJ Washington, and former Net Spencer Dinwiddie carried the offensive load and scored over 15 points each. Davis’s return saw him dominate with over 10 points and scoring 6 of 9 from the field.
Both teams had different outlooks coming into tonight’s game, with the Mavericks’ coach, Jason Kidd, wanting to adjust his team by bringing back Anthony Davis and potentially becoming a playoff threat come April. On the other hand, the Nets’ coach Jordi Fernandez looked at this game as an in-game experience for the young guys to work on executing their plays.

Brooklyn Go Up North And Go Down In A Loss
The Toronto Raptors handed the Nets their fifth straight loss in a crushing 116 to 86 score. Orlando Robinson shined for the Raptors putting up a double-double for the victory. Robinson set the tone early on when he put up 10 points in the first quarter and snowballed the Raptors’ lead to 32 to 18 at the end of the quarter. The Raptors did not look back as they continued to dominate the younger and inexperienced Brooklyn Nets. According to ESPN, the loss set the Nets back with a record of 1-8 in their last nine games and 2-15 in their last 17 games.

Brooklyn Struggles Under The LA Lights
The Brooklyn Nets had the Los Angeles Clippers playing to their potential in a 132 to 100 beat down for a sixth-straight Brooklyn loss. The Clippers outmatched and outscored the Nets in every way possible, with Kawhi Leonard leading the pack. Leonard had a game with 10 of 14 from the field, 5 of 6 from the three-point line, and making all his free throws for the evening. Ivica Zubac was perfect from the field and had himself a double-double. The Clippers were the more talented team and gave Brooklyn a run for their money, struggling to catch up and gain points against the grizzled veterans of the Clippers. Although the Nets kept it close to the end of the first quarter, only down by one point, they could not catch up despite their youth and were outscored 42 to 21 in the second quarter. The Nets did not fare any better in the third quarter and were outscored 37 to 21 to go up 105 to 69 heading into the final quarter.

The Streak Is Beat
The Nets had broken another losing streak when they defeated the Washington Wizards in a 115 to 112 point game thanks to recent signee, Drew Timme, hitting the clutch layup to give the Nets the lead. Jalen Wilson sealed the win with a pair of free throws in the game’s final seconds. Timme had put up a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds before their meetup against the Wizards during his first game with Brooklyn. The Nets were dominant in the perimeter, putting up 10 of 30 threes in the half, a large margin compared to the 1 of 13 from the three. The Wizards mitigated their terrible three-point shooting by getting themselves to the line and shooting 20 free throws in the first half. Still, the Nets could keep up and finish off the Wizards in the final seconds to win the game.

For the Nets, Tyrese Martin had 20 points, Cam Johnson had 18 points, Keon Johnson had 15 points, and Noah Clowney had 13 points. Off the bench, Wilson had 20 points and shot 4 of 7 from the three-point line, and Timme had 19 points.
For the Wizards, AJ Johnson had 20 points, Jordan Poole had 12 points, Alex Sarr had 12 points, and Bub Carrington had 10 points. Off the bench, Colby Jones had 20 points, and Jaylen Martin had 13 points.
Nets Go Back-To-Back
Brooklyn finally gave themselves a small winning streak in a 113 to 109 victory against the Dallas Mavericks. Keon Johnson had over 20 points and was the Nets’ primary offense. They were without their leading scorer, Cam Johnson, who was out due to a back injury. The Nets had a rally in their bones thanks to a 12 to 0 run after being down by 10 points mid-way through the fourth quarter. This rally, led by Timme, pushed the Nets to a clutch victory after trading leads throughout the game with Dallas. A 10-point deficit would have usually sealed the deal for the opposing team, but that clutch rally by Brooklyn helped give them their second consecutive victory since the All-Star break.

Edwards Powers Through, Takes Care of Brooklyn
The Minnesota Timberwolves mowed through Brooklyn in a 105 to 90 loss for the Nets. An injury scare didn’t scare Anthony Edwards as his dominant offense pushed the Timberwolves to victory. Edwards was shaken up after landing his foot on the Nets’ coach Jordi Fernandez after making a three-pointer. Edwards was sat, but later returned to finish and win the game. In addition to Edwards’ offense, the Nets had trouble stopping Timberwolves’ Center, Rudy Gobert, who put up a double-double while shooting 9 of 10 from the field. The Nets trailed by one at the end of the first quarter, until Edwards and Gobert put the Timberwolves up to a comfortable lead that they never looked back on. Claxton tried to make things happen for the Nets but to no avail, as the Timberwolves had outmatched the Nets for the entirety of the game, leading to the loss.

What’s Next For The Nets?
While this Nets’ team isn’t expected to go anywhere after April, some glaring issues should be fixed during the offseason. The Nets have had this same cycle of keeping the game close in the early goings, losing the lead after the first quarter, and playing “catch up” for the rest of the game. Another issue is Brooklyn’s defense and allowing large scoring outputs by the opposing team, with Brooklyn struggling to combat with their offensive burst to keep the game close or take back the lead. The Nets need some anchors in the draft that’ll help solidify significant leads and have them avoid blowout wins or losing out on a significant lead. Only time will tell if this tanking season will lead to a future playoff-contending team in Brooklyn.
