A new report named NJ one of the safest states to live in the United States.
An analysis by WalletHub, a personal finance company, named New Jersey the 17th safest state in the country. The company analyzed and formed their list based on various statistics, including crime rates, vehicle crashes, available firefighters and police officers, health and safety infrastructure, poverty rate and climate disasters in each state.
The data looked at a total of 52 standards, each of which belong to one of five major categories: Personal and Residential Safety, Financial Safety, Road Safety, Workplace Safety, and Emergency Preparedness. The highest score a state could receive was 100.
The Garden State is one of the few states with the highest number of law enforcement officers per capita. The state also has one of the lowest road fatalities per 100 million miles as well one of the lowest rates of work-related injuries. New Jersey, however, ranks high for unemployment and financial security and safety.
The state’s score, out of 100, was 53.28. In terms of Personal and Residential Safety, the state ranked eighth. NJ ranked 41st out of 50 for Financial Safety and 14th for Road Safety. The Garden State was the 24th state with the highest Emergency Preparedness, the 29th state with the best Workplace Safety and the 14th state with the greatest road safety.
WalletHub also emphasized the role of the individual in forming and maintaining their communities.
