The New York Sirens hosted the Toronto Sceptres at the Prudential Center on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. Previous to this matchup, the Sirens hosted the Boston Fleet last Wednesday, which they lost. The Sirens looked to end a four-game losing streak against Toronto– unfortunately, the Sirens suffered a 4-1 loss to Toronto.
Sirens goalie Corinne Schroeder started the evening in the back of the net with her adamant save percentage of .917, which has led the Sirens to six victories so far this season. In the back of the net for the Sceptres was Kristen Campbell, who holds a save percentage of .892, not far off from Schroeder. Campbell has won fewer games with the Sceptres, but based on her performance so far that night, she looks to continue to improve and advance with the team as the season progresses.
During the first period, both teams came out fierce, the Sceptres attempting shots on goal once the puck dropped. After 20 minutes, the game remained scoreless which left both teams riveted for the second.
Avid in the second period, just at the start, the crowd is buzzing as the Sirens’ offense is on-point, keeping the puck in the offensive zone. They acquired three shots on goal, just seconds into the period. Sceptres goalie Campbell stayed strong on her feet and blocked the continuous, well-aimed shots. The Sceptres made their way towards the Sirens net and Hannah Miller scored at 7:53. Not long after, Julia Gosling scored her third power-play goal of the season at 13:12. Putting the game up 2-0. The Sirens trailed with six minutes remaining in the second.
With the third period beginning, the Sirens needed to strategize to score and find their way back into the game. Having trouble finding the back of the net, the Sceptres return to the Sirens defensive end and score their third goal of the night. Hannah Miller opened the third period by scoring at 9:19, formulating her four-point night. Nine seconds later, the Sirens put up their first goal of the night. Alex Carpenter was able to find the back of the net, pushing the puck right through Campbell’s legs, making the game 3-1. This was Carpenter’s seventh goal of the season. At 11:17, the Sceptres make the game 4-1 as Julia Gosling scored her second goal of the night and her fourth of the season.
The game concluded as the Toronto Sceptres take the victory back home. The Sirens will play the Boston Fleet on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET in Buffalo at the KeyBank Center.
