NJ Devils Visit Calgary Flames Looking to Continue Win Streak

By Gabrielle Nordstrom

The New Jersey Devils are taking part in the second game of their Western Canadian road trip tonight at 9 p.m. ET against the Calgary Flames.

The 7-4-2 Devils will be taking on the 5-4-1 Flames for the first time this season. Last season they split the season series 1-1. The Devils will look to continue their winning momentum into this game and walk away with a win.

After a commanding 6-2 win against the Anaheim Ducks last Sunday, the Devils did not stop there as they traveled to Vancouver and put on a show against the Canucks, walking away with a 6-0 win.

Jacob Markstrom has looked rock solid in net after having a few rough games. At the moment it is unconfirmed who will start in net for the Devils tonight.

The Devils’ defense has been as good as it could get in the past two games and they will look to continue that into tonight. Jonas Siegenthaler has been the best defensive defenseman in the NHL, a massive improvement from his lackluster play last season.

Captain Nico Hischier has been everything and more for the Devils. He is currently tied for first in the NHL for goals scored with a total of 10, four of those being on the power play. The Devils have relied heavily on him and followed his lead. Hischier has played a vital role in the Devils’ success so far this season, accumulating 15 points in 13 games. He’s been seen on the penalty kill, power play and taking important faceoffs for the Devils. He currently has a face-off win percentage of 54.6%

Hischier is the player to watch out for tonight.

Special teams could have a chance at being a huge story for the Devils. The Devils’ power play is ranked top five in the league while the Flames’ penalty kill is tied for 28th. The Flames do not have much success on the power play as they are ranked 22nd in the league.

Calgary will look to end their four-game losing streak against the Devils tonight. In the past four games for the Flames, they have been scored on 19 times and only scored six goals.

The Devils look to move their win streak to 3-0 tonight, puck drop at 9 p.m. ET.
