The 2025 season began with a thrilling three-game series between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Nationals, showcasing both impressive performances and some tense moments. The Phillies kicked off their campaign with a dramatic 7-3 win in Game 1, thanks to Alec Bohm’s clutch two-run double in the top of the 10th inning, which ultimately secured the victory after a back-and-forth battle. In Game 2, the Phillies’ offense came alive with an 11-6 win, highlighted by big home runs from Bryson Stott, Kyle Schwarber, and Brandon Marsh, giving the team a commanding 2-0 series lead. However, the Nationals fought back in Game 3 to avoid a sweep, taking a 6-1 win behind a strong performance from left-handed starter Mitchell Parker. Despite the loss, the Phillies showed their resilience and offensive firepower, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting season ahead.

Game 1: Phillies 7, Nationals 3: Clutch Bohm

In Game 1 of the Phillies vs. Nationals series, the Phillies secured a 7-3 win thanks to Alec Bohm’s clutch double in the top of the 10th inning. Bohm drove in two runs, giving the Phillies the lead and securing the victory after a back-and-forth game. Despite solid pitching from Zack Wheeler and solo home runs by Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber, the Nationals tied the game late, but Bohm’s timely hit was the decisive moment for the Phillies.

Game 2: Phillies 11, Nationals 6: Luzardo’s Dominance Shines

In Game 2 of the series, the Phillies rallied to an 11-6 victory over the Nationals, taking a commanding 2-0 series lead. The game started with a bang when the Nationals struck first in the bottom of the second. Keibert Ruiz launched a two-run homer, giving Washington an early advantage. However, the Phillies quickly answered in the top of the fourth inning. Bryson Stott tied the game with a two-run homer, evening the score and setting the stage for a tense battle.

The Phillies’ offense ignited in the middle innings, with Kyle Schwarber blowing the game open with a three-run shot in the sixth to give the Phillies a comfortable 7-2 lead. The game continued to slip away from the Nationals as Brandon Marsh followed suit in the seventh inning with his own three-run homer, putting the Phillies ahead 10-3. While the Nationals tried to mount a late comeback, the Phillies’ offense proved too much for Washington’s bullpen.

Lefty starter Jesús Luzardo was solid from the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings and allowing just two earned runs.

Game 3: Nationals 6, Phillies 1: Nats Avoid the Sweep

In Game 3 of the series, the Nationals bounced back to defeat the Phillies 5-1, avoiding a sweep. The Nationals struck first with a powerful fourth inning, as Josh Bell launched a three-run homer to put Washington ahead. Bell’s blast came after a rally that saw the Nationals take advantage of some shaky pitching from the Phillies, with runners on base and no outs in the inning. This home run gave the Nationals a commanding lead, and they didn’t look back after that.

Left-handed starter Mitchell Parker led the charge for Washington, delivering an impressive performance on the mound. He pitched 6 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball, working around some early trouble, including multiple base runners in the first few innings. Despite the Phillies getting some hits, Parker’s composure kept them from breaking through. The Phillies’ offense struggled to get anything going against the lefty, and their attempts to score were consistently thwarted by Parker’s solid command.

The Nationals added to their lead in the sixth inning with another home run, this time a two-run shot by Nathaniel Lowe, further distancing themselves from Philadelphia. The Phillies’ lone run came in the eighth inning, but by then, the Nationals’ bullpen, led by Kyle Finnegan, was in control. Finnegan closed out the game, securing the Nationals’ 5-1 victory and preventing a series sweep.
