Authorities have identified a pilot who was killed in a helicopter crash in South Brunswick.
He has been identified as Josef Yitzhak, 44, of Israel. South Brunswick police worked with the Israeli Consultant and Israeli police overnight to notify his family. Yitzhak was the only person on board the single-engine Robinson R22 helicopter when it crashed at approximately 3:22 p.m. in a canal.
First responders attempted to pull Yitzhak from the wreckage to a nearby shoreline, but police say life-saving efforts were not possible due to the severity of his injuries.
The piolot had taken off from nearby Princeton Airport, which is about 3 miles from the crash scene. Witnesses say they had observed the chopper flying erratically before the crash occurred.
An investigation into the cause is ongoing.
