The Seton Hall Pirates faced off against DePaul on Wednesday night in what was a thrilling game. The final score was 80-85 in favor of the Pirates, which now puts them to an (6-9) record on their in season and a (1-3) in their conference and drops DePaul down (9-7) and win-less in their conference matches with a record of (0-5).
What seemed, at first glance, that the DePaul Blue Demons would come out and secure a win on the road away from home, took a massive turn in the final moments of the second half. DePaul looked much more prepared and superior in the first half, leading the entire first half of the game, not letting Seton Hall gain any momentum what’s’ so ever. The Blue Demons led in the first half with a score of 41-26 over the Pirates, and the highest lead of the half was 19-7 in favor of DePaul. Turnover after turnover is what was caused troubles for the pirates in the first half that even made Seton Hall coach, Shaheen Holloway, to react in frustration that nothing was going right for his team.
Once the second half of the game commenced, it was clear that coach Shaheen gave an inspiring pep talk at the break and ordered for much more pressure from the defense and also much faster transitions from the team and that’s exactly what the Pirates responded and delivered within the second half working hard to complete a 15-point comeback early in the half making it a one point game and a score of 49–50 thanks to a three-pointer by freshman guard, Jahseem Felton who had 7 points on the night and contributed 2 rebounds, But once again wasn’t enough to take the lead for the first time on the night with DePaul scoring three back-to-back three pointers that would see them go up 61-52 and would see the Pirates down once again being forced to make another comeback.
Seton Hall quickly answered back and in no time and thanks to Seton Halls’ Isaiah Coleman, made the game once again a two point game with a score of 65-67 with just seconds left on the shot clock. Coleman ended the game with 24 points and contributed 6 rebounds and 5 assists on the night.
In the final seconds of the game, a Free-throw was made by DePaul’ Jacob Meyer, who would put the Blue Demons up by one. The biggest moment of the game happened thanks to a late clutch three point shot that would see the Seton Hall Pirates tie the game 68-68 for the first time on the night and when it mattered most, we were now on to overtime.
Two back to back three-pointers were made by each team at the start of overtime, but from there it was indeed Seton Hall who took over for the remaining of the match. Seton Hall would have their largest lead in the entire game in overtime by seven points and a score of 80-73 but was quickly dropped to only three points in the final seconds by DePaul, making it an 83-80 game.
Dylan Addae-Wudsu was the man to bring it home for the Pirates and secure the win, shooting two 2/2 clutch free throws in the last seconds of the game, which then saw DePaul be unable for a late response. Dylan ended the game with 24 points and contributed 4 rebounds and 7 assists on the night. The trio of Dylan, Isaiah, and Prince Aligbe all combined for a total of 64 points, which was more than half of the Pirates’ points.
The win saw the Pirates end a streak of five straight losses, the last one being against the Xavier Musketeers. Seton Hall will be back in action this Saturday on the road against Providence, who are (7-8) on their season and (1-3) in their conference.
