J.T. Miller scored two goals in his first game since returning to the Rangers but the Bruins beat the Rangers 6-3 at TD Bank garden in Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday.
Charlie McAvoy ripped a one-time slap shot on the power play to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. Then a little more than 30 seconds later, a missed clearance attempt by the Bruins ended up giving Rangers’ newcomer, J.T. Miller a scoring chance form the slot. Miller wound up and fired a one-time slap shot that beat Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman to tie the game at one.
At 17:09 of the first period, a defensive lapse by Rangers defenseman Adam Fox led to David Pastrnak scoring from the slot to put the hosts up 2-1.
The game started getting away from the Rangers in the second period. The Bruins scored 3:39 into the second period on Charlie Coyle’s deflection in front of Igor Shesterkin. Then near the end of the period, Ranger defenseman Will Borgen was called for tripping. On the ensuing power play, the Bruins passed the puck around until it found the stick of Pavel Zacha. The Bruins forward would take a quick snap shot that beat Shesterkin under the blocker to give the Bruins a 4-1 lead
At 18:40 of the second period, Bruins’ Brad Marchand was called for interference against Urho Vaakanainen. The Rangers went to work on the power play, desperately needing a goal and they would get it at the start of the third period. Again it was J.T. Miller receiving a hard pass from Mika Zibanejad right in front of the Bruins net and tipping it home.
However, the Bruins would clap back a little less than a minute later. The officials failed to call a penalty against Pastrnak for pushing Reilly Smith from behind near the boards. As a result, the Rangers failed to clear their zone and the Bruins’ Matthew Poitras picked up the loose puck and passed over to Pastrnak who was in the center of the ice and drilled a one-time slap shot that beat Shesterkin under the blocker to give the Bruins a 5-2 lead.
Halfway through the third period, Rangers’ Jonny Brodzinski tipped in a hard pass from Ryan Lindgren to make it 5-3. Pastrnak added an empty net goal to complete his hat trick and the Bruins trounced the Rangers 6-3 at TD Bank Garden in Boston.
It’s a quick turnaround for the Rangers who will host the Vegas Golden Knights tomorrow at 6 p.m. ET. The Knights are tied for first place in the Pacific Division and the Rangers are on a three-game losing streak.
