Today it was announced that the New York Rangers had signed 19-year-old 2024 first round pick Gabe Perreault to a three-year entry-level contract.

Perreault produced 16 goals and 32 assists (48 points) for Boston College in his most recent sophomore season. Perreault was tied for fourth among NCAA skaters in assists, eighth in points-per-game and tied for 11th in points. He was named a Hockey East First-Team All-Star and a nominee for the Hobey Baker Award, handed out yearly to the top male college hockey player.

In two seasons with Boston College, the left-handed forward amassed 108 points (35 goals, 73 assists) in 73 games. Among NCAA skaters over the past two seasons, Perreault ranked second in assists and third in points.

Perreault’s freshman season may have been even better than his sophomore year. The Boston College Eagle had 19 goals and 41 assists in 36 games during the 2023-24 season, finishing second among NCAA skaters in assists and tied for fourth in points. For his efforts in 2023-24, he was named a CCM/ACHA Second-Team All-American, a Hockey East Second-Team All-Star and a New England All-Star.

“Gabe was a key contributor to the success of the Boston College hockey team over the past two seasons,” said BC Head Coach Greg Brown. “His effort, skill, and passion had a great impact on the team’s success. We wish him all the best as he begins his professional career.”

Before he played collegiately, Perreault played two seasons for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. While there he amassed 185 points in 121 games which ranks fourth all-time in program history. In his final season with the USNTDP, the 5-foot-11 178 pound forward had a gawdy 132 points, the most in a season by any player in the history of the USNTDP.

At the international level, Perreault won Gold with the United States at the 2024 and 2025 World Junior Championships. During those two World Juniors appearances, he scored 20 points in 14 games. He also won gold with the U.S. at the 2023 U-18 World Championship where he scored 18 points in seven games.

According to EliteProspects.com, Perreault has an NHL ready offensive skill-set.

He’s got great hands and sees the ice exceptionally well. The puck is on his stick for a stride or two, just long enough to draw a forechecker, then it’s on the tape of a teammate in motion with space. Perreault is a deceptive, adaptable, pacey playmaker who always makes the right choice with the puck. He can sequence plays, put pucks into space, and problem-solve against numbers with relative ease.

Even though Perreault is joining the Rangers while there are only eight games remaining in their season, by signing the ELC this season, he burns the first year of his three year ELC.

With the Rangers’ playoff hopes hanging in the balance, they may get a shot in the arm with the addition of the BC star. It is possible that Perreault makes his NHL debut in the Rangers’ game on April 2 against Minnesota. Stay tuned for more on this developing story from ONNJ Sports.
