Red Storm Cruise Past Pirates In Dominant Fashion

The Seton Hall pirates hosted St. John’s on Saturday night but ended up in a dominant performance in favor of the Red storm. Final score on the night was 79-51. This win brings St. John’s up to a 16-3 overall in the season and a conference record of 6-1 making it five straight wins.

St. John’s took the lead and held it from the very first minute until the last, scoring the first four baskets on the night and starting strong making it a score of 12-3 before coach Shaheen Holloway decided to call the very first timeout of the game. St. Johns’ largest lead in the first half was by 24 points with a score of 37-13 a few moments before the first half came to an end. First Half score was 39-16 in favor of the Red Storm who had a dominant first quarter. Junior, RJ Luis Jr. led the Red Storm in points at the end of the first half with 13 points and for the pirates, Isaiah Coleman led the team with 7 points. Seton Hall ended 4/30 in Field goals in the first half.

To start the second half, the pirates went on a 11-2 run on the court but was nowhere near to match the Red Storm’s fast rotations. RJ Luis Jr. took over the Prudential Center on the night, going 9-13 from field goal range and 4-5 from three-point range recording 24 points and contributing 8 rebounds and 4 assists. RJ’s teammates, Zuby Ejiofor, Aaron Scott and Kadary Richmond combined for a total of 37 points and 22 rebounds all together.

The Pirates were not only unlucky on the night, but they also had two Flagrant I fouls called against them. The first one was called against Freshman, Godswill Erheriene and not even a few minutes later, both coaches on opposite teams received technical fouls. The second Flagrant I foul was called against sophomore, Gus Yalden with nine minutes left on the clock in the second half.

Isaiah Coleman led Seton Hall in points with 11 and contributed 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Jahseem Felton followed up in points with 9 and contributed 1 assist. This game was Seton Hall’s biggest loss of the season losing by 28 points.

Seton Hall men’s basketball will be back home Tuesday night hoping to finally shrug off the three-game losing streak facing off against the Marquette Golden Eagles who sit (15-3) on their season and 6-1 in their conference.
