Robbers Break Into the Home of Ocean County Assemblyman

By Gerald D'Ambra

The home of Ocean County Assemblyman Paul Kanitra (rR) was broken into overnight, and his car was stolen right from his driveway. Kanitra shared video of the theft on Facebook, which was caught on camera at his Point Pleasant home. The house was empty and being renovated. Kanitra and his family are staying in Hazlet with a family member while the work is being done.

The thieves showed up in a BMW with temporary plates, then got in through a window and found the keys to a car that was parked in the driveway. Kanitra wrote on Facebook, “Because New Jersey has such a high prevalence of these instances I keep the keys to my car in a special Faraday box that keeps criminals from being able to electronically copy the signal. I keep it nowhere near the front door. These brazen thugs searched the entire house until they found the keys anyway.”

Police tracked the car to Newark and eventually found it in New York City.
