A crash in Burlington County on Thursday resulted in significant damage, closing Route 73 down for the day. The roadway will stay closed until Friday.
A car crashed into a pole at 9:39 AM on the northbound side of Route 73 at Fellowship Road, releasing wires out into the middle of the road. No one was injured, and the police revealed that they do not suspect criminal involvement in the crash.
The crash closed a portion of the highway between Route 73 and Interstate 295, which then caused local roadways to also close down. Other roadways were directed as detours for drivers to take because of the road closures.
PSE&G came to the site to fix powerlines, noting eight power outages in the Mount Laurel area, although it is unknown if they are related to the crash. By 12pm on Thursday afternoon, Mount Laurel reported 68 power outages.
The Mount Laurel Police Department reported these significant road closures and detours:
Route 73 northbound is closed by Ramblewood Parkway and Rogers Walk. No drivers are permitted to take left turns or U-turns at Rogers Walk.
Route 73 southbound is shut down at Beaver Avenue. Drivers cannot make left turns of U-turns at Church Road.
Fellowship Road southbound is closed at West Park Drive. Drivers departing from West Park Drive and Route 73 should travel in the direction away from Route 73.
Residents driving on Fellowship Road northbound should instead travel on Route 73 southbound, avoiding left turns at Route 73 and making sure not to cross over this roadway.
Entry to Route 73 from Interstate 295 is closed at Exit 36.
Access to Route 73 northbound from the New Jersey Turnpike is blocked off at Toll 4.
The Mount Laurel Police Department will continue to update residents and drivers on Facebook and Nixle. To stay updated, individuals can text 08054 to 888777 and subscribe for Nixle alerts.
