Scotch Plains-Fanwood Gymnasts Secure Sixth Straight County Crown

SCOTCH PLAINS – The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Union County gymnastics dynasty continued for another year as the Raiders won their sixth straight Union County gymnastics crown Thursday evening at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School.

SPF took first place in the team standings with a score of 106.300, outpacing Summit, who finished in second with a 105.775.

While Scotch Plains-Fanwood set the bar in the team race, Union’s Lailah Willis lead the way in the individual all-around race.  Willis took top honors on vault and balance beam to secure the all-around title with a 36.900.  Willis was followed by Summit’s Caraline Delikaris, who finished in second with a 36.125, and Westfield’s Katherine McDermott, who finished in third with a 35.950.

Willis led the way on vault with a 9.55.  She was followed by Cranford’s Claire Werner, who finished in second with a 9.3, and McDermott who finished third with a 9.2.

The top three all-around finishers also placed in the top three on the uneven bars.  Delikaris took top marks on the bars with an 8.8, while Willis and McDermott finished second and third with an 8.65 and 8.625 respectively.

Willis again took first on beam with a 9.45. She was followed by Delikaris in second, who scored a 9.275, and SPF’s Nicole Perez in third, who finished with a 9.15.

Summit’s Charlotte Lemkau rocked the floor exercise, scoring a 9.4 to take home top honors.  Scotch Plains-Fanwood’s Maureen Whitney finished in second with a 9.3, while Willis rounded out the top three on the event with a 9.25.

Rounding out the team standings, Westfield finished in third with a 105.550, Cranford finished in fourth with a 103.300, Union finished in fifth with 95.625, Union Catholic finished in sixth with a 94.625, and David Brearley finished in seventh with a 65.550.
