Lakewood – The Jersey Shore BlueClaws played the Brooklyn Cyclones on April 22. It was a quiet game full of action, but remained scoreless for most of the game.
There were plenty of hits and loaded bases nearly every other inning. However, the fight between the two teams kept each other at bay.
It wasn’t until the bottom of the fifth inning that the BlueClaws made something happen. The bases were loaded, and it was up to Dylan Campbell to do something. He hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Pierce Bennett, who was on third, to score, putting the night’s first run on the board.
The game continued to move along, and not much happened until the eighth inning, when Zach Arnold hit a line drive, a double out to left field, putting him on second while advancing Bryson Ware, who had previously reached base, to third.
Following that play, Bennett stepped back up to the plate, hitting a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Ware to score. Moments later, Arnold was also able to score when Bryan Ricone hit a sacrifice to left. At this point in the game, Jersey Shore was ahead by three, while the Cyclones hadn’t scored anything all game.
It wasn’t until the ninth inning that the Cyclones finally got on the board. Jacob Reiner hit a double to right field, which allowed Jesus Baez to score, finally giving Brooklyn their first and only run of the game.
The final score was 3-1, with the BlueClaws taking the win.
Casey Steward was dealing on the mound for Jersey Shore. The right-hander pitched six innings, surrendering no runs, no walks, and only two hits while striking out one.
Ware and Carson DeMartini led the BlueClaw offense with two hits apiece with Ware also scoring a run. Also, while he ended the evening hitless, Rincon worked three walks and notched an RBI for Jersey Shore.
The Jersey Shore BlueClaws will return to action tonight, April 23, at 6:30 p.m. to play the Brooklyn Cyclones in their second game of this series.
