The New York Sirens hosted the Montreal Victoire this Sunday with a 1 p.m. puck drop at the Prudential Center. For the Sirens, Kayle Osborne led the team out to start against the visiting team’s goalie, Anne-Renee Desbiens.

There was quite a strong goaltending matchup between each of the two teams today. Sirens goalie Kayle Osborne leads the team with a .954 save percentage and a 1.44 goals-against average to start the afternoon. Before this matchup, she holds a record of 1-1-0. For Montreal, Anne-Renee Desbiens had a .933 save percentage and 1.86 goals-against average, leading the Victoire 7-1-0 so far this season.

The first period commenced, and the Sirens won the first face-off of the afternoon. The Sirens put up incredible defense during the first period as the Victoire attempted shots on goal. At 15:02, the Sirens, Allyson Simpson, received a penalty for boarding, and the Sirens headed to the penalty kill. Anticipating the first period for both the league and the crowd. The Sirens fought hard to keep the puck out of their zone, giving no advantage to the Victoire. The first period remained scoreless while the Sirens had six shots on goal and the Victoire had five.

Just 34 seconds into the second, the Victoire scored first. Victoire’s Captain, Marie-Philip Poulin, scores her 10th goal of the season, putting the Victoire on the board 1-0. The Victoire struck again, Marie-Philip Poulin’s second goal of the afternoon, bringing the game to 2-0. Both teams immensely picked up the physicality and momentum for the second period here at the Prudential Center. The Sirens received a penalty for roughing, Sarah Fillier went to the box, and Victoire forward Abby Boreen received a penalty for cross-checking, both two-minute minors. The Victoire’s Lina Ljungblom, received a two-minute minor as the Sirens headed to the power-play. With minutes remaining in the second, the Sirens’ Jade Downie-Landry goes down, and the play is under review. Sirens head to the power-play as Victoire, Marie-Philip Poulin receives five minutes for charging after play review. The second period concluded with a 2-0 lead by the Victoire.

As the final period began, the Sirens continued to trail 2-0 to Victoire. Victoire’s goalie, Desbiens, has been putting up an impressive game, blocking the majority of shots on goal. The Sirens put up their first goal of the afternoon at 15:33. Defender Allyson Simpson scored her first goal of the season, bringing the game to 2-1 with roughly six minutes remaining in the third. An ecstatic third period for the Sirens as they are looking to find their way to the top. Victoire, Lina Ljungblom heads to the penalty box for holding (15:26) as the Sirens head to the power-play in return. The Montreal Victoire take the win back home, 2-1.
