Sirens Trade Saulnier to Fleet for Girard

By Adriana Leone

The New York Sirens completed the first trade in franchise history Tuesday morning, which sent Jill Saulnier to the Boston Fleet in exchange for Taylor Girard.

Saulnier, 32, has only played in five games this season due to an injury sustained in the first game of the season. In those five games she has registered no points. Since returning from injury, she has served as an extra forward for the team. In the games that she did see the ice, her ice time was limited, playing just 52 seconds in New York’s last game.

On the receiving end, the Sirens get Girard, 26, who has also only played in five games this season due to an injury sustained at the end of last season. In five games she has zero points and an average ice time of 8:20. Before her injury last season, she played in 23 games registering four goals and six points. Before the PWHL she played in the PHF for the Connecticut Whale. Collegiately she played three seasons with Lindenwood University and two with Quinnipiac University.

This one-for-one trade features two players who are both looking to rewrite their PWHL careers with a new start with a different PWHL team. Both Saulnier and Girard are set to take the ice with their new teams in each team’s next game.
