On Tuesday afternoon, a worker at Holy Cross Cemetery in South Brunswick became trapped in a grave after falling in. A wooden board snapped causing him to fall nearly 6ft down into the grave. South Brunswick EMS, Monmouth Junction Fire Department, and Monroe Fire Department responded to the call. Upon arrival to the scene, it was clear the grave hole was not secure, so a special trench and rescue team from the Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad was called for assistance. Rescuers worked to secure the hole while transporting him out of the grave and taking him to the hospital to treat a shoulder injury. The incident followed a funeral service, shortly after 1 p.m. with rescue taking just over an hour.
