Are we surprised? Steve Cohen is the wealthiest owner in baseball and a lifelong Met fan. No WAY was he going to let Soto sign anywhere else. $765 Million to him is like a generous charitable donation.
No. Deferred. Money. pic.twitter.com/YRgk5zJlmO

It’s a sweet, sweet day for Mets fans. How good does this feel? Of course, Soto signed with the Mets. There wasn’t a doubt after they swept the Yankees last season. The man just wants to be a part of a winning team.
World Series on the Horizon
This is historic for Mets owner Steve Cohen. Soto had a career-year with the New York Yankees – Winning a Silver Slugger Award, named All-MLB First Team, and American League MVP finalist.
The [now] New York Met slashed an impressive .288/.419/.569, with a career-high 41 home runs and 109 RBI in 2024.
What’s notable about signing Soto – And probably the most convincing for him – Is that his contract does not break the bank for the Mets – Even without deferred money. There are still moves to be made with plenty of money to spend. Signing him did not halt the rest of their postseason plans.
I’ll tell ya, it’s like a weight has come off my shoulders. As a young and healthy player, knowing he’ll continue to produce to that caliber alongside Francisco Lindor and (hopefully) Pete Alonso brings tears to my eyes, truly. This is so deserved for us Mets fans that have endured “little brother” and “clearance rack” comments from our crosstown rival-fans for years.
You had one great season with Soto – The Mets will have many more.
