The Devils Visit the Stanley Cup Champions

By Justin Brady

The road ahead will be challenging for the Devils, with a tough test looming this week as they embark on a three-game road trip in Florida.

That road trip begins tonight against the Stanley Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers. New Jersey enters the matchup coming off a frustrating shutout loss to the San Jose Sharks, a game that was largely a disappointment for the Devils.

Jacob Markstrom is expected to start in goal for the Devils, despite struggling in his recent outings with a save percentage of .869% in his last two starts.

The dynamic duo of Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt looks to get back on the score sheet after a quiet game. Together, they’ve combined for 25 points in the past 10 games on the same line together alongside Ondrej Palat.

The Devils have been very successful on the road this season, posting a record of 6-3-0, often playing more cohesively and with greater simplicity away from home. However, this will be no easy task, as they face one of the hottest teams in the league.

The Panthers are riding a seven-game win streak and have been overwhelming their opponents. New Jersey must keep a close eye on Sam Reinhart, who has been on fire with 23 points in just 15 games this season.

Spencer Knight is confirmed to start in net for Florida. Knight has been solid through his four starts this season with a .902% save percentage.

The Devils had their struggles against the Panthers last season, posting a 1-2-0 in three meetings. However, New Jersey did manage to secure a win in Florida, showing they can compete on the road against this formidable team.

The Devils look to get back in the win column in what will be a tough matchup.

Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m. ET.
