The Hughes Bowl returns tonight at 10:30 p.m. ET as the Devils travel to Vancouver to take on Quinn Hughes and the Canucks.
The Devils have had the better hand against the Canucks as of recently, winning the past 15 out of 17 games against them. But one of their two losses was their most recent game against Vancouver. Last season on Jan. 6, the Devils lost to Vancouver 6-4.
Since the Hughes brothers have begun playing each other, the Devils have a record of 6-2 against the Vancouver Canucks. Luke Hughes has a record of 1-1 against his brother Quinn.
Jack has seven goals and six assists in seven games against the Canucks, scoring in all but one game. Luke has two points in two games, one goal and one assist. Quinn has eight assists in eight games played against the Devils, registering a point in five out of eight games against his brothers.
The Devils had a shaky week last week losing four straight with some atrocious goaltending. The Devils regrouped and took on the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday and had one of their best games since the beginning of the season. The Devils won with a score of 6-2, a game that saw 13 players get on the scoresheet and an outstanding performance from the whole team and goaltender Jacob Markstrom, who saw 26 shots on net compared to the Devils 34.
Vancouver is coming off of a 4-3 overtime loss against the Carolina Hurricanes. They last played on Monday, Oct. 28 and should be well rested for tonight’s matchup.
Devils captain Nico Hischier continues to start his season with a bang as he is currently tied for first in the NHL for goals scored this season with a total of nine. NJ will look to Hischier to push their level of competition.
Brock Boeser leads the Canucks in goals and points with a total of five goals and nine points to begin the season.
Special teams continue to look good for New Jersey and will rely heavily on them during tonight’s game.
The Canucks have a top 10 penalty-kill in the league, which will match up well against the Devils’ top 10 power play in the league. The Devils have a weaker penalty kill – thanks to the four-game skid last week – but will match up against Vancouver’s mid-tier power play.
The Devils currently have a record of 6-4-2, while Vancouver has a record of 4-1-3. A win for the Devils against a potential playoff team could be the exact boost of confidence they need to remain back on track.
